"Being a part of AIM has completely exceeded my expectations. It has opened up a new world of group art show possibilities, meeting new acquaintances and friends, and having more laughs than imagined ... I have learned quite a bit about the work that's required to promote one's own art ... I strongly believe in my work, knowing that it brings joy and education to people...". |

She was living in St Maarten for 25 years, painting island scenes, selling prints and originals of her work in many shops, galleries, and hotels on the island. Pastel on sanded paper is the medium she prefers; she also enjoys painting in watercolors. She is excited to capture and paint her new surroundings and looks forward to continuing her art career in Canada.

A lifelong commitment of exploring art forms through drawing, watercolors, calligraphy, art history, bookbinding, music, and philosophy eventually led to embroidery. Jo Ann Allan loves the dimensionality of fabric and thread and its infinite possibilities of color, pattern, and light. Poetry or an evocative phrase often serve as inspiration. Manipulating fabrics and digital photography in combination with paper is her current interest.

Anna Curtin's work is inspired by her desire to explore the tension between harmony and discord. She is fascinated by the idea that what you see first is not always what can be
seen on further reflection. Anna works with images that bridge the gap between the obvious and what is believed to be improbable. She chooses subjects based on a sense of beauty or excitement. Anna wants to stimulate the imagination to experience a feeling or create a story.

Linda Darby has been creating images ever since she could appreciate nature and the beauty in the world around her. Her textured paintings generally begin as a collage, to which she adds acrylic paint, acrylic mediums and found materials. An encaustic method of melted beeswax, is then applied and reheated to fuse the work into a smooth finish.

Largely self-taught, Suzanne DeStaffany is a newly emerging digital illustrator who particularly enjoys combining visual juxtaposition and irony with an occasional hint of whimsy. Her wide range of richly detailed subjects often reflect the fractal patterns observed in nature, while others consist of other-worldly kaleidoscopic fantasies which originate unexpectedly from her photographs of ordinary life and urban decay. Her limited-edition giclée prints are available for purchase through her new website.

Jane Dillon-Davis has been exploring the creative possibilities of textiles for over twenty years. With a background in Art and Design, she initially worked with such traditional techniques as quilting, appliqué, and hand and machine embroidery to create large quilted wall hangings, which she exhibited and sold in the Edmonton area.
In the past decade, she has refined a process combining silk collage and machine embroidery, believing that these techniques, along with the range and versatility of textiles available today, have enriched her work with added depth and perspective.

Janet Etter has been captivated by the tugboat life of Victoria's Inner harbour. She feels a deep need to record what is left of our rapidly changing waterfront and disappearing lifestyles. When Janet comes across a working tug in our inner harbour she is enthralled by the colour, strength, movement of these boats and the men that work on them. Janet documents these images before they are lost forever.

Gail Evans-Hatch has had a passion for art, design, and colour since she was a small child. Her mother took her with pallette in hand to paint mountain scenes in New Hampshire. Four decades passed before she returned to painting when her husband sent her to art workshops. She loves watercolour, since it forces one to always adjust and adapt as you create, when not painting, Gail researches and writes histories of families, businesses, and organizations, published in stunning books.

Victoria's moderate temperature allows Anna Humbke to paint on her balcony; her view on a clear day is pure inspiration. Anna's favorite quote inspired her to make art imprint on the world. "Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes time. Vision with action can change the world." - Joel Arthur Barker

Joan Kagan has been involved with pottery for over thirty years, continuing her fascination with the potter’s wheel. She believes that a person can’t have too many bowls, and that even the most basic every day pottery can be displayed as well as used. Her mission is to create pottery that is practical for daily use and pleasing to look at. She has worked as a potter since retiring from high school teaching and counselling in Toronto. Over the years she has learned from many fine potters in Canada and the United States. She has recently made her home in Victoria British Columbia where she has established her new studio. She continues to teach and to make her lines of household wares, while experimenting with new shapes and colours, and continuing to learn. She is inspired by her new warmer city where she takes great pleasure in being able to see the ocean every day. Small classes for adults are offered and custom orders are taken. Contact for inquiries and appointments.

Showcasing her interpretations and views through lens of film and digital camera on International Photo sites, she has decided to bring work closer to her home and heart in the City of Victoria. E.A. Smith came to BC in 1983. She drew buildings in Toronto as a teenager and many Saturday afternoons found her on the steps of a church pen and paper in hand. Elizabeth wanted to attend Art school but was discouraged by a school counselor and encouraged to attend college for Business Administration instead. At 55 she decided to retire, sell the family business, which she owned with her husband, and learn to water colour and draw. She has had instruction from her Artist husband Howard Smith, and takes lessons from Yvonne Maximchuk in the Broughtons, www.searosestudio.net, any chance she gets. While in Victoria she will be sourcing out instruction on painting and drawing in the local art community. She would love to hear from anyone who has liked her cards.

Howard Smith started drawing at a very early age. When he was six his family moved to Ocean Falls where he spent his youth. As a 5th grader he was asked to draw pictures of the teachers at school and handed in his work. He had drawn the back of every teachers head. He has a different perspective. He continues to paint, working with traditional First Nations designs using non traditional methods, and continuing to paint the scenes of the Historical Working BC coast. His subjects are usually historically significant boats or lighthouses. He usually works in water colour and/or acrylic and sometimes incorporates Wood burning into yellow cedar in his work.
